Summer Time Skin Rescue
West Hollywood, California (Thursday, July 30, 2009) - It’s a hot time in the city, in the suburbs, in the countryside, although blessedly not so much on the beach (but it’s hot enough in the sun). Whether your skin is roasting in the Western dry heat or your sweat and oil glands are pumping profusely in the sticky, moist Southern humidity, Dr. Jessica Wu says she is here to advise you in how to deal with the latest treatments. If you have a difficult time being cool and professional because you are literally drowning in your own perspiration and the dry cleaning bills are making you sweat more with anxiety, she can calm you. By using Botox for hyperhidrosis, the technical term for excessive sweating, she can help you stay fresh, clean, and confident while cutting down on laundry and dry cleaning bills. Depending in which region you live and which body parts you treat, it can make a worthwhile investment. The really good news - 85 percent of insurers actually provide coverage for the treatment; hyperhidrosis is a recognized medical condition. One treatment, one shot can keep a person completely arid for six months and mostly dry for nine months to a year. Think of the self-assurance of being absolutely sweat-free during the dog days of summer and relieved that you are cutting down on laundry time and expenses. Most importantly, think of the amount of social awkwardness and self-consciousness being prevented from being sweat-free. Dr. Wu treated one young lady who perspired copiously, she said. The poor girl was going through three shirts a day, so treatment saved her both social embarrassment and laundry money by using the treatment. “It is never too late to start,” Dr. Wu said, “and you can start early in adulthood when the perspiration disease develops its worst symptoms and reaction. She said she has treated some kids, but the majority of her hyperhidrosis patients are young, college-aged adults who are self-conscious about appearances and coming out in the career world right after college, in summer. Even though being scent free in this society beckons to most, one would think, Dr. Wu says the most popular Botox request is for the treatment of frown lines between the eyebrows. Other than trying not to squint and creasing the thin skin around the eyes, Botox can prevent crinkling around the eyes, if done by a well-trained doctor, by relaxing the muscles. It softens the tension, opens up the eyes while stopping the creases from growing longer and deeper. According to the experts, this gives the patient a “natural appearance.” A person can keep up the erasing and easing of Crow’s Feet by maintaining the treatment every four months. For all the men out there, Dr. Wu does have options and advice for you guys. For the bald, suave men out there, since you don’t have hair protecting you from the sun’s rays, she advises applying sunscreen to the scalp. If you happen to notice changes, she recommends seeing a dermatologist right away for pre-cancerous growths. For the knotty dilemma of irritating shaving bumps, she knows they are caused by ingrown hair, especially if you have curly hair that shrunk and gets trapped inside. What you need to do is exfoliate. The best and easiest way to exfoliate, especially during the summer, is washing with a glycolic acid cleanser to get rid of the dead skin cells clogging up the pores while releasing the hair for an easier, smoother shave. She also suggests that men grows a beard then clip it to about one-eighth an inch. This way, the hairs are able to grow out freely and there will be fewer shaving bumps to deal with. For those born with way too many oil glands (oh, the cost of looking too young for your age) and dealing an over-active T-Zone, Dr. Wu suggests seeing a dermatologist. Perhaps she or he can prescribe a retinoid, as in Tazorac, to control the blackheads and pimples. The easiest way to keep the grease at bay, she says, is using a cleanser and/or a toner with salicyclic acid. Dr. Wu keeps West LA offices - find out more about her at drjessicawu.com.
