The Gateway project, which includes Target, once funded millions of dollars in redevelopment for the city's Eastside, but now the state receives that money.
The new Eastside Task Force is comprised of nine eastside community members; residential owner-occupants, residential tenants, and business owners. The nine members include four members appointed at-large by a majority vote of the Council, in addition to one member appointed directly by each Councilmember.
The primary goal for the task force will be to discuss and explore ways to create a broader community representation with a focus on quality of life, public safety, and future development of the eastside. This representation could be from a variety of models including but not limited to enhanced neighborhood watch groups, neighborhood associations, business improvement districts, etc.
In addition to providing the City Council with feedback from eastside residents and business people, the task force will also focus on investigating methods to create an infrastructure to facilitate better dialogue between City Hall, and the residents and business community on the eastside. Each appointed task force member is initially appointed for a 6- month term.
Those selected at last Monday’s regular city council meeting:
Mayor Jeffrey Prang appointed Lisa Andreson.
Mayor Pro Tempore Abbe Land appointed Adam Bass.
Councilman John Duran appointed Alicia Matricardi.
Councilman John D'Amico appointed Jennifer Dunbar.
Councilman John Heilman appointed Rob Bergstein.
The remaining four appointees were chosen according to a majority consensus of council members' nominations:
