Taking a stand against bullying – of all kinds

Philanthropist/Actor/Model Ronnie Kroell, founder of The Friend Movement, and Chad Hudson, president of Chad Hudson Events,www.chadhudsonevents.com joined with more than 50 people on Jan. 16 for 2013’s first gathering of WeHo Supper Club Wednesdays, a rotating dinner and cocktail event benefitting local charities, at Lola’s Restaurant in West Hollywood,

The beneficiary of the evening was the anti-bullying crusade, The Friend Movement, and included special guest Lizzie Velasquez, a bullied woman who has become a spokesperson for the organization.

Ms. Velasquez is only one of three people in the world known to have a debilitating disease called Adipose Syndrome and was bullied because of it.

The 23-year-old was born without any adipose tissue - meaning she has no fat on her body.

As a result, she weighs just 58 pounds, even though she eats as many as 60 times a day, the Daily Mail reported.

Consequently, she has been the subject of cyber bullying with some cyber bullies even dubbing her the "ugliest woman in the world" because of her appearance.

"It's not easy, I will be the first to tell you it's not easy," Ms. Velasquez told Dr. Drew Pinsky on one of his recent shows.

"I may have this outer exterior of people saying, 'She can handle everything, she's dealt with this for so long,' and to be honest, I'm human and of course these things are going to hurt."

The Friend Movement inspires people to prevent bullying by enabling them to be a better friend; providing entertaining and educational resources, cultivating global partnerships, and leveraging the latest social media technology.

The WeHo Supper Club has been meeting weekly or bi-weekly at local restaurants since May 2009.

Each event features a different West Hollywood-area restaurant and a different charity, with 10-20% of the food and beverage sales brought in for the night being donated to local worthy causes.

The Telegraph reported that doctors believe she may have something called Neonatal Progeroid Syndrome.

It is a condition that leads to premature aging, but is different from the more common aging disorder, progeria, according to the National Institutes of Health. It is characterized by wrinkled skin, not much fat, a large head, a face that looks aged and visible veins in the scalp.
