Bicyclist Badly Injured In Hit And Run

West Hollywood, California (December 3, 2009) – A hit and run driver ran down a man riding a bike at 12:15 am, Los Angeles Sheriff Department reported Tuesday.



The accident happened at this intersection, the auto turning from the left turn lane on the right, striking a bicyclist moving through the intersection downhill, then allegedly left the scene, say Sheriffs deputies. Photo by WeHo News.

The bicyclist “suffered massive injuries,” according to Sgt Kris Aloma, the West Hollywood Branch Station’s Traffic officer, and taken to a nearby emergency room.

He remains in intensive care, but was conscious and in stable condition on Wednesday, she told WeHo News.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Celine Mahdavi, age 18, within moments and blocks of the crash.

The crash occurred in the intersection of La Cienega Boulevard and Holloway Drive, while Ms. Mahdavi allegedly made a left turn onto Holloway from the northbound side of La Cienega.

Apparently the bicyclist was traveling downhill and southbound along La Cienega and passing through the intersection when Mercedes Benz SUV Ms. Mahdavi was driving allegedly struck him.

His injuries were serious, according to Sgt. Aloma, “Both his hands were broken and he had extensive facial injuries. But he’s out of intensive care and it looks like he’ll survive the injuries.”

Ms. Mahdavi was charged with three felony counts: Felony Hit & Run, Felony DUI under the age of 21 (Blood alcohol levels >.05 – Ms. Mahdavi’s was .08, according to the report), and Felony DUI.

She made $10,000 bond, obtaining her release early the following morning, Wednesday.
