WeHoNews.com has erred and would like to make a public mea culpa. In our March 9 issue, we published an article by editor Ryan Gierach entitled City Heads Off Pot Initiative. In the original iteration of the piece, Mr. Gierach inadvertently included previously published quotations made by Council member John Duran to Los Angeles Independent reporter Rosanna Mah without attributing them.
We have excised the text from the article and have appended a note to the piece explaining the void.
We apologize to Ms. Mah and to the Los Angeles Independent.
We apologize to you, the readers of WeHoNews.com.
Journalism is truth, and journalists hold a tremendous responsibility to the reading public to speak truth, even about our selves.
Journalists are human, and we make errors. But if those errors are not publicly acknowledged, if they are not offered up to the public for examination just as we would hold up another’s actions for accountability, we are shirk our primary responsibility.
WeHoNews.com aspires to the highest journalistic standards, however, it’s apparent that we occasionally fall short of them. We feel strongly that publicly acknowledging and correcting our errors is the correct way to proceed.
We welcome your comments, and promise to print every letter to the editor received.
