Go Gay USA: Flagstaff, AZ

Flagstaff, Arizona (Thursday, March 20, 2008) - As we were driving back home from Palm Springs we stopped for three days in Flagstaff, Arizona. Having not a clue what to expect, we were greatly surprised.

First, we stopped at the Inn at 410 Bed and Breakfast. We had two delightful nights there.

The owner, Gordon Watkins and his manager, Kimball were extremely hospitable. They have 9 guest rooms and suites, all with private bath, fireplace, mini-fridge, coffee maker, DVD/VHS/CD players with movie library, clock radio and individual heat controls and air conditioning.

Their beds are triple sheeted with down blankets, pillow top mattresses and feather or comfort filled pillows. You could sleep for days on their beds!

The bedrooms are all beautiful. Actually there is a book out on Beautiful Bedrooms, and several of theirs are pictured in that book.

Breakfast is something at the Inn that you certainly do not want to miss. Served between 8 AM and 9 AM, this sit down breakfast is scrumptious!

Inn at 410 Bed and Breakfast in Flagstaff, Arizona.

We are not talking coffee and doughnuts here..... we are talking about a real sit down breakfast with a special entree everyday.

One morning we had Pecan Custard French Toast and another morning we had Artichoke-Potato Frittatas. They were to die for !

Breakfast also comes with fresh fruit, yogurt, breakfast breads and coffee or tea. Every afternoon they stock their Tea Table with fresh cookies from their oven along with seasonal iced tea or hot cider as well as a selection of hot teas.

Relax inside or out and enjoy timeless tunes or the music of their feathered friends in the peace of our garden setting. The Inn at 410 Bed and Breakfast is located at 410 N. Leroux St. in Flagstaff.

There are tons of things to see and do in Flagstaff, and one of our favorites was the Lowell Observatory which was founded in 1894 (the planet Pluto was discovered there). It is located just about a mile West of downtown and they have a good visitors center.

Most evenings the telescopes are available for public viewing. Don't miss the 24 inch wide telescope. When we visited we got to see the planet Saturn with all it's fabulous rings and was a real treat to see.

The Riordan Mansion, a 13,000 sq. ft., 40 room log cabin style mansion was built in 1904 for two brothers who married two sisters and started the logging industry in Flagstaff.

One of the first structures in town with electricity and indoor plumbing, it was a grand house for its day.

Flagstaff Gardens, Downtown Flagstaff, Arizona.

It is located just a short distance South of downtown. Other places to visit would include the Snow Bowl Ski Area, Northern Arizona University, the Flagstaff Arboretum and the Museum of Northern Arizona which is a world class institution with collections, research and exhibits on the archaeology, geology, natural history and Indian cultures of the 4 corners region.

There are several American Indian Reservations close by and the rock formations in the area are spectacular! Be sure and take your camera with you. Northern Arizona University is in Flagstaff so there are plenty of theater/arts, etc.

Three blocks from the Inn at 410, downtown Flagstaff has been restored during the past decade with the completion of Heritage Square in 1999. Night or day, downtown Flagstaff is bustling with plenty of fine restaurants and bars and shops.

Although there are no gay bars in Flagstaff, EVERY bar and every restaurant are extremely gay-friendly as is the entire town. Everything happens right downtown in Flagstaff.

Flagstaff’s Heritage Square, near Downtown Flagstaff, Arizona.

Most of the buildings are just the way they were many years ago and so historical.

We walked thru many of the old hotels and could just imagine the cowboys there.

We had such a great time there and can't wait to return on our next trip in September.

Whether just passing thru for a couple of nights or staying for a week you certainly won't get bored in Flagstaff.

There is just so much to see and do. And EVERYBODY is friendly!
