West Hollywood, California (Thursday, May 8, 2008) The West Hollywood City Council voted to extend the “urgency” zoning ordinance, passed in June, 2007, that effectively halted most residential redevelopment in the city’s R3 and R4 zones. Brought in hopes of stopping “the demolition of 10 affordable workforce [rental] units and replacing them with 12 [luxury] condominiums,” as Council member John Heilman put it, the ordinance gave the city’s staff time to develop new standards for multi-family structures in R-3 and R-4 zoning districts as part of updates to the land use and housing policies of the General Plan...
